Once a high school wrestler that went 150-0 on his way to four 5A state titles for Phoenix Maryvale High School, Angel Cejudo now finds himself staying in the wrestling community as the head coach for Fight Ready. Cejudo plans on bringing a full team to the Grand Canyon Nationals over the upcoming Thanksgiving break. As a coach he says that the ultimate goal for this tournament is to measure where the kids are at. “Whether we win or lose there is no losing,” says Cejudo, “we either win or we learn.”

Cejudo coaches around 40 wrestlers at his gym in Arizona, Fight Ready. His coaching philosophy is different from most coaches because of his background not only as a competitor but also because of the other coaches Cejudo has been able to coach under. The number one value he showcases in the practice room is focusing on building a strong foundation in order to allow for more growth. Cejudo says he hopes to help his wrestlers build into better techniques in order for them to be able go farther with wrestling in the future. Ultimately he hopes to have some of the top wrestlers in the country but he also understands that that takes patience, encouragement, and practice.

One person Cejudo says he’s looking forward to watching at Grand Canyon Nationals is Nathaniel Deasey, one of his heavyweight wrestlers. “He takes risks out on the mat… he may be a heavyweight but he moves like one of the 150 pound wrestlers,” says Cejudo,  "he may be only 14 but he wrestles way beyond his age division."  Although, being someone who was able to wrestle in RMN Events tournaments in high school, Cejudo is excited to see all of his wrestlers compete at Grand Canyon Nationals. If you're in the area be sure to watch for Cejudo, Deasey and the rest of the Fight Ready team at Grand Canyon Nationals over the Thanksgiving Holiday!
